California Imposes New Training Requirement for Health Care Providers

California has enacted a law that will require registered nurses, certified nurse assistants, licensed vocational nurses, and physicians working in skilled nursing facilities or congregate living health facilities to participate in a training program that focuses on preventing and eliminating discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The program will be developed by the State Department of Public Health (Ch. 550 (S. 1729), L. 2007, enacted September 28, 2008).
