Checklist: HR'S RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE 

  • Ensure all disciplinary actions are consistent with policy, past precedence and fairly administered.
  • Review all of the circumstances that led to the warning notice and approve the appropriateness of the action.
  • Maintain a 30-, 60-, 90- (or more) day reference file to ensure supervisory follow-up on warning notices.
  • Review and thoroughly investigate supervisory recommendations involving disciplinary suspension or discharge and approve or disapprove    the recommendations prior to action being taken.
  • Approve any suspensions and conduct the required investigation.
  • Maintain a record of all discharges by department and type.
