Kentucky, Holiday and Vacation Law Summaries
Kentucky's holiday law is codified in the Kentucky Revised Statutes at Section 18A.190. Kentucky's vacation law provisions are codified in the Kentucky Revised Statutes at Section 337.010.
WHAT THE EMPLOYER MUST DO
Holidays defined.- State offices will be closed and state employees will be given a holiday on the following days (Sec. 18A.190, as amended by S. 33, L. 1998, effective July 15, 1998):
the first day of January plus one extra day;
the third Monday in January;
Good Friday, one-half day;
the last Monday in May;
the fourth day of July;
the first Monday in September;
the eleventh day of November;
Presidential election day;
the fourth Thursday in November plus one extra day; and
the twenty-fifth day of December plus one extra day.
When any of the days enumerated above falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as the holiday, and when any of the days enumerated falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be observed as the holiday (Sec. 18A.190, as amended by S. 33, L. 1998, effective July 15, 1998).
Wages/vested vacation wages.- Kentucky includes vested vacation benefits in the statutory definition of wages due upon termination (Sec. 337.010(1)(c), as amended by Ch. 154 (S. 139), L. 1998).
