Sample Respectful Behavior Policy
DO NOT DISCRIMINATE OR BEHAVE IN A DISRESPECTFUL MANNER TO ANY EMPLOYEE, CUSTOMER OR VENDOR.
It is the policy of [Organization name] that disrespect by anyone for any reason will not be allowed. If you behave disrespectfully to customers, coworkers, vendors or management, you will be disciplined. Unless there are unusual circumstances and this is your first offense, you will lose your job.
We will not tolerate disrespect and lack of cooperation among all our employees. Respect is in the best interests of [Organization] because we must direct all of our energies in serving our customers and returning a profit to our shareholders. Negative and mean-spirited personal opinions have no place in the conduct of our workplace.
The rule to use in every situation is to ask yourself how the other person will feel, not just what you intended. For example, you may think an ethnic joke is funny and tell it to entertain. However, if that joke offends another, you were wrong to tell the joke even though you did not mean to offend but to entertain.
If you have any doubt as to whether your action is improper or fails to meet the spirit of this policy, contact your supervisor, a human resources representative or the President. If you feel you are not being treated in a respectful manner, contact your supervisor, a human resources representative or any member of senior management, including the President.
Our position is not to merely comply with the law; our position is to exceed any legal requirements. We will not tolerate actions or decisions made that consider non work-related factors. For example, an action may be offensive but not illegal. The purpose of this policy is to make clear that at [Organization name], we prohibit the offensive action.
