How do employers ensure that the activities are nondiscriminatory?

Any event sponsored and/or paid for (whole or in part) by a company must not discriminate in any way. Events should not be held at facilities that are known to have discriminated against any minority groups represented in the work force, including facilities owned or operated by groups that do not allow non-sectarian members or prohibit membership to one sex.

Sponsor events and teams at the same level for both sexes, and be sensitive to the interest of small groups of employees as well as larger groups. Be mindful that year-end is a religious holiday for several organized religions, by incorporating symbols of all equally or not using any symbols.

If employees are allowed to invite dates to company events, be prepared to accept same-sex couples. Decide ahead of time whether or not an invitation that includes spouses also includes a live-in relationship not sanctioned by marriage.
