Just how much an EAP will cost your organization depends on such factors as the number of EAP counselors employed, the extent of services offered, the level of EAP counselor compensation, and the hours worked. Another cost is the amount of time employees are away from work receiving EAP counseling. Internal EAPs also have overhead costs for the space used by the EAP. Outside EAP vendors may charge by the number of employees, the number of services provided, or a combination of both. While an EAP might ultimately reduce health care costs, initial start-up costs are likely to be quite high, as large numbers of employees might be referred to treatment and other services.
