How often should employees be allowed access to the files?

How often employees are allowed access to their personnel files may be governed by state law, in which case your company must allow employees access to those files at least as often as the state requires. However, your company may choose to allow more frequent access. Typical frequencies of access are two or three times a year or at reasonable intervals. For state-specific information on limits to the frequency of access to personnel files, see State Laws.
