Sixteen million people with disabilities work. They are trained in many fields. According to the Department of Labor, the number of people with disabilities working in various occupations is:

  • Executive and administrative 995,000
  • Machine operators 855,000
  • Food preparation and service 813,000
  • Sales workers (retail/personal) 803,000
  • Handlers, equipment cleaners, laborers, helpers 768,000
  • Cleaning, building service 669,000
  • Mechanics, repairers 603,000
  • Motor vehicle operators 507,000
  • Motor vehicle operators 507,000
  • Secretaries, stenos, typists 493,000
  • Construction trades 484,000
  • Misc. administrative support 435,000
  • Health care 400,000
