Is harassment prohibited only in the workplace?

While employment-related harassment usually occurs in the everyday workplace, it can also occur outside of the normal work environment. Examples include:

  • At employer-sponsored social events-for example, at an employer-sponsored holiday party or sporting event.

  • At private locations not related to work-for example, after-work drinks at a local bar, restaurant, or hotel.

  • At customer locations-for example, during a sales call at a customer’s office.

  • In cyberspace-for example, while checking email or accessing a work-related online bulletin board.
