What are 15 tips for employee behavior at your holiday party?
Enjoying the holidays with coworkers can be wonderful, but employees must keep in mind that the party is still a business function. Even though it may be the time of year to celebrate, there is a time and place for everything. Here are 15 employee DON'Ts that you may want to share:
Don't skip the party-it is polite to show for at least a little while.
Don't leave too early or arrive too late-budget your time appropriately.
Don't bring a guest-unless you know it's okay to do so.
Don't forget this is a holiday
party-wishing your colleagues a Merry Christmas
may not be appropriate if they don't celebrate it. Keep your greetings neutral.
Don't stuff yourself like the holiday bird-overindulging on food can be unsightly.
Don't overdue the holiday spirit-if alcohol is available, limit your intake or don't drink at all.
Don't be the town clown-even though this is a social event, act professional.
Don't be overly affectionate-this applies both to your date and your coworkers.
Don't forget the ribbons and bows-wear appropriate holiday finery. This means festive, yet professional.
Don't talk shop-even though you're sharing time with coworkers, discussing business will only dampen the cheerful mood.
Don't be a bore-monopolizing someone's time can be irritating and rude. Instead, mingle and circulate.
Don't ignore opportunities-take the time to get to know people, especially the higher ups that you may not be as familiar with.
Don't gossip or complain-we get enough of this at the office.
Don't forget to be thankful-be sure to thank all of those involved in making the event happen.
Don't drink and drive.
