When considering the establishment of a retirement plan, several principal policy-making decisions must be brought into preliminary focus. These are:

  • Should the retirement benefit be formal or informal? [see ¶47,220 ]

  • What is the difference between qualified and nonqualified plans? [see ¶47,230 ]

  • Will the retirement plan be financed on a profit-sharing basis? [see ¶47,240 ]

  • Will the retirement plan be contributory or noncontributory? [see ¶47,250 ]
