Alabama, Fair Employment Practices Law Summaries

Alabama has no general employment discrimination law, but the state does have an age discrimination law. This law is summarized at 1-2800 . The state also has a law pertaining to private sector employment of certain state employees (see below).


What the employer must do

All persons who are regularly employed by the state and whose pay is $75,000 or less exclusive of benefits shall be permitted to also engage in employment in the private sector if the employment is not specifically prohibited by law, and if there is no conflict with the state job of the state employee. However, no employee shall engage in employment in the private sector during their scheduled working hours. The entity that employed the state employee shall not do business with or be employed by the department that employs the state employee (Sec. 1, H. 440, L. 2003).
