WHAT THE EMPLOYER MUST DO
Holidays defined. --The following days are legal and public holidays (Secs. 683.01 and 683.12):
(1) Sunday of each week;
(2) January 1, New Year's Day;
(3) January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Day;
(4) January 19, Robert E. Lee's Birthday;
(5) February 12, Lincoln's Birthday;
(6) February 15, Susan B. Anthony's Birthday;
(7) third Monday in February, Washington's Birthday;
(8) Good Friday;
(9) April 2, Pascua Florida Day;
(10) April 26, Confederate Memorial Day;
(11) last Monday in May, Memorial Day;
(12) June third, Jefferson Davis' Birthday;
(13) June 14, Flag Day;
(14) July 4, Independence Day;
(15) first Monday in September, Labor Day;
(16) second Monday in October, Columbus Day and Farmer's Day;
(17) November 11, Veterans' Day;
(18) Election Day;
(19) fourth Thursday in November, Thanksgiving Day;
(20) December 25, Christmas Day;
(21) Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras in counties where carnival associations are organized for the purpose of celebrating that day.
Holidays falling on a weekend. --If any of the holidays enumerated above fall on a Sunday, the following Monday will be a legal holiday (Sec. 683.01(2)).
Religious holidays. --The chief judge of any judicial circuit is authorized to designate Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday as legal holidays for the courts within the judicial circuit. If so designated, the courts will be closed on those days and the days will be holidays for court employees (Sec. 683.19).
