Kansas, Meal and Rest Periods Law Summaries

Kansas has meal period provisions for minors (Kansas Statutes Annotated, Chapter 38, Article 6). There are also statutory provisions for nursing mothers (H. 2284, L. 2005, enacted March 6, 2006).

WHAT THE EMPLOYER MUST DO

Meal periods

Minors.- The hours allowed for dinner or other meals must be stated in the notice to be posted by employers (Sec. 38-605).

Rest periods

Nursing mothers.- A mother may breastfeed in any place she has a right to be (Sec. 1(b), H. 2284, L. 2005, enacted March 6, 2006).

POSTING

Minors.- Every employer must keep posted in a conspicuous place near the principal entrance, in any establishment where children under 16 years of age are employed, a notice stating, among other information, the hours allowed for dinner or other meals. The form for this notice will be furnished by the State Labor Commissioner (Sec. 38-605).
